The Chilterns and Thames Valley area is situated in the heart of Buckinghamshire and offers some of the most stunning
countryside in England, within a stones throw from London. Officially designated as an Area of Outstanding National
Beauty, the Chilterns and Thames Valley is home to the rolling Chiltern Hills and the historic RiverThames.
The area has several attractions to visit whether you are visiting the area for a 'short break' or business meeting,
you are guaranteed a warm and friendly welcome. The many picturesque villages, historic towns, country walks, together
with cosy country pubs, bustling market towns and warm Chiltern hospitlity make it a place that visitors will want to return
to again and again.
No wonder film and television location scouts have made a bee-line to the area, from Turville, the setting for The
Vicar of Dibley, to Amersham, where Hugh Grant romped with Andie McDowell in Four Weddings and a Funeral, every village tells
a story. The new 'Midsomer Murders Trail' is a gentle ramble through that enchanted world, half real, half imagined.
The village of Long Crendon features in more than half a dozen episodes and even if you have never seen a single episode,
the trail is warmly recommended. It is a real eye-opener, introducing a Buckinghamshire that is not just easy on the
eye, but deeply and deliciously eccentric. (Extract from the Daily Telegraph, 12 May 2007)
Whilst staying in the area why not visit some of our local attractions including Bekonscot, the oldest model village
in the world where Enid Blyton was in her element and immortalised in her 1951 book The Enchanted Village. Her
house (under new ownership!) is located within one mile at the picturesque village of Well End and the fabulous garden is
open for viewing to the public. Also closeby are the notorious Hellfire Caves at West Wycombe, John Milton's Cottage
in Chalfont St Giles and why not discover Britain's heritage at various National Trust properties including Cliveden,
former home of the Astors, and Hughenden Manor, home of the former Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli.
Birdwatcher's Delight - Little Marlow Lake (within one mile) - This site never disappoints, with many a county rarity
discovered here. (Words: Brian Clews, Author of Where to Watch Birds in Thames Valley and The Chilterns)
